Celebrating 3 More Wins

Acts 1:8 ESV - But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

On the September 19 devotion, we looked at the following wins to celebrate:  Conversion to christ, Prayer, faithfulness to God, water baptism, life-giving Christian fellowship, forgiving others, repentance (holy life-change), worship of God in Spirit and truth, Christian discipleship, and serving others with excellence.  We need to encourage and celebrate each of these wins in people’s lives along with at least three more as we conclude the Giants Win, Dodgers Lose series:

  1. Holy Spirit Baptism: Celebrating everyone’s own “personal Pentecost” as the Spirit of God fills and empowers believers for more world-impacting ministry as a witness of Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:1-4, 38-41 ESV - When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance…38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

  1. Evangelism (Witnessing):  From sharing your God-story to inviting others to church to teaching people about Jesus and all other ways you fulfill the Great Commission in your sphere of influence.

2 Corinthians 9:22b-23 NLT - Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23 I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

  1. Missions:  Supporting and promoting the cause of worldwide evangelism and doing good in the name of Christ.  The two ways this is achieved are through “giving” and “going”.  Plan to do both.

Acts 13:47 ESV - For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, “ ‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ”

Giant:  a person or thing that is very large, powerful, or successful; a person of great ability, power, or influence

Dodger:  a shifty person, especially one who persistently evades a responsibility; a person who avoids doing something by being dishonest

Fulfilling the Great Commission:  Giants win. Dodgers lose.
