Romans 12:1-2 NET - Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice—alive, holy, and pleasing to God—which is your reasonable service. 12:2 Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God—what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.

Titus 3:4-6 NIV But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior

Transfiguration or transformation goes beyond mere improvement to becoming something different.  A butterfly is not an improved caterpillar but a new creature altogether.  Yet for the butterfly to emerge, the caterpillar must cease to exist as it previously had.  Transformation is wonderfully, beautifully radical by nature.  God doesn’t make us superficially nicer - He makes us all new creations.  This renewing is a miraculous work of His Spirit in us and through us.  We cannot have a renewed mind if the Spirit of God is not renewing us from the inside out.  Yet we can intentionally allow things from the outside in as part of that mind renewal.  In order to a have a spiritual mind, we must not only allow the Spirit to renew us inwardly but also fill our minds with that which helps us know God more and think more like Jesus.  Begin with a thoughtful, consistent diet of the Scriptures and other writings of the godly who may give us insights.  For those who want to be renewed while working or driving, listen to preaching or teaching podcasts and truly God-honoring music.  Finally, meaningful relationships with those with a pure spiritual zeal (or who bring out the best in you) are a powerful way in which you can promote the renewal of your mind. Rather than “try harder” or implement rules to think better, trust the Spirit of God to empower you, to flow through you, to renew you.  Then experiment for a season (perhaps 21 days minimum) with intentional daily investments in Scripture reading, podcasts, and friendships.  See what happens next.
