Psalm 119:165 ESV - Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.
In this short verse, two desperate realities of the human condition are laid open for inspection - (1) the desire for peace of mind and (2) the reality that people are often tempted to become offended or fall away from God’s path. A lack of inner peace and the presence of bitter offenses are two of the most common diseases of the soul. A Christian unable to experience peace internally will find it challenging to rejoice in the Lord, to use their spiritual gifts to serve others effectively, or to effectively witness of the resurrected Christ. A Christian living with offenses often becomes hardened spiritually and emotionally, in some cases abandoning their faith in God or abandoning their essential connection to His Church. Yet this verse indicates the key ingredient to promote personal peace and to vaccinate against deadly offenses: a love for God’s word. Not simply God’s word, but a genuine LOVE for God’s word.
BE INTENTIONAL: In what combination of specific and scheduled areas (e.g., more faithful church attendance, gathering for small group Bible discussions, attending new Bible classes, daily personal study of Scripture, daily listening to Bible teaching/preaching podcasts, etc.) will you be willing to do consistently for 90 days as a “Pslam 119:165 Experiment” to track your sense of personal peace, lack of offense, and protection from falling into sin?
Proverbs 30:5 NLT - Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.
