Proverbs 17:4 NCV
Evil people listen to evil words. Liars pay attention to cruel words.
Revelation 2:7 NLT
Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give fruit from the tree of life in the paradise of God.
From where (or from whom) do I hear the words that bring out the best in me - words that best challenge, motivate, inspire, and correct me, especially in regard to matters of my faith and relationship with God?
From where (or from whom) do I hear the most negativity, complaining, gossip, slander, lying, or evil-speaking? What Biblical and practical boundaries or reactions might God expect from me in response?
Do my musical preferences and songs fill my ears with mostly good, bad, or neutral words/ideas/concepts? Do their lyrics mostly contradict or conform with my identity and values in Christ?
How should I best “train my ear” to hear the voice of God’s Spirit? Given that John wrote Christ’s words to the churches, what role should time contemplating the Scriptures play in my hearing from God?
