2 Corinthians 8:7 HCSB - Now as you excel in everything—faith, speech, knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love for us—excel also in this grace.
Excellence inspires. Excellence encourages. Excellence in serving the vision, mission, and church of Jesus Christ is worship toward God, and it is love toward one another. While some may make serving an afterthought, never be discouraged in expressing excellence in action. Excellence in kingdom serving, giving, blessing, and speaking… it’s all part of the way you worship God and show love for others.
In 2 Corinthians 8, the subject is chiefly our kingdom generosity. Do we seek to excel in this grace to give financially? God’s not in financial crisis and neither is His church. He gives us all things richly to enjoy, but when our heart has been changed and our faith is in Him… that faith inspires us to be generous like He is. We get to finance the vision as co-laborers with Christ, because it is a sacrificial measure of our love and our lives!
We exist for the glory of God and the salvation of the world, building up one another throughout the process. You get to contribute to God being glorified in this world. You get to contribute to the mission of seeking and saving the lost. You are given the privilege to contribute to strengthening, encouraging, and building up others on a journey with Jesus. That’s key to your whole purpose in life. Why wouldn’t you want to fund that vision? Why wouldn’t you excel in work to see that vision fulfilled? Remember, your job may be WHAT you do (at times), but it is God who defines WHO you are and WHY you are alive!
